flupianez_290507.jpgA few lines about myself. My name is Francisco Lupiáñez- Villanueva (or just Paco a typical Spanish name) and I begun this site as a blog following the concept of Personal Research Portal developed by Ismael Peña.

I’m Associate Professor at School of Information and Communication Science Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and researcher at Internet Interdisciplinary Institute. PhD in the Information and Knowledge Society, Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3), Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). Bachelor in Economics, Universidad de Oviedo.

My teaching areas at School of Information and Communication Science are related with Network Society (Information Policies, Information Society, Network Society and New Media) and research field is concerned with the social, economic, cultural and policy issues associated with information and communication technologies specially focused on Innovative Technologies; Networked Citizens; eGovernment; eHealth; eInclusion.

During almost three years (2009-2012) I was a Scientific Officer at Information Society Unit -European Commission, DG JRC Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) to work on economic evaluation and modelling of Personal Health Systems and during almost a year (2008) I was a postdoctoral research fellow at The Science & Technology Studies Unit, in the Department of Sociology at University of York (UK).

During 2008 I worked as a researcher in  the project “Citizens, Health and the Internet in Catalonia” directed by Prof. Castells. Before this (2007-2005) I was involved  in the Project Internet Catalonia “Technological Modernisation, Organisational Change and Service Delivery in the Catalan Public Health” directed by the Prof. Manuel Castells.

I joined UOC in 2003, I gave support in all e-learning UOC UNESCO Chair project till 2005, and I also had been teaching and doing some contents for the UOC’s E-learning International Master Degree.

My research interests can be written, in a broad sense, this way:

  • Health, Government, Welfare and the Internet.
  • Digital Economy.
  • New Media and Communication
  • ICT and Behavioural Economics.
